Iuchiban the Heartless has been freed from his prison. Twice before the Empire's greatest heroes bound him in magic, steel and stone. Immortal and invincible, he has returned to take his vengeance. Though the First Bloodspeaker's taste for carnage is great indeed, he is no fool. He knows that he cannot stand against a unified Empire. Already his Bloodspeakers have sown their spies throughout the Great Clans. Already his twisted craftsmen have begun creating artifacts of powerful magic, designed to tempt the ambitious and deliver their souls to his keeping.

But Iuchiban's plans are darker yet. In an unholy ceremony, Iuchiban has sacrified the last Ki-Rin. Using foul magics he has cast a rain of blood over the Empire. Those trapped in the downpour must face that which is most wicked and vile within their souls. Those unable to conquer their demons fall prey to them, and awaken as willing servants of the Bloodspeaker.

The Emperor watches from the depths of this palace, safely protected by the Jade Champion's magic. His anger grows as he watches his trusted followers succumb to corruption. The Bloodspeakers have thrown down a gauntlet against all of Rokugan, and it is an insult the Righteous Emperor will not endure.

The time has come for war.
